Dear Jayhawk Supporter,
As you know, the past few months have brought many challenges and uncertainties to our country and the Jayhawk community is not immune to these circumstances. In late July, KU Athletics Director Jeff Long released an update regarding the financial state of Kansas Athletics. The departments and sports budgets that our 470+ student-athletes rely on to advance academically and to compete in their respective sports are in jeopardy. Kansas Athletics currently anticipates a revenue shortfall in the tens of millions for 2020-21 due to the challenges of COVID-19.
In short, the Jayhawk experiences that we all love and that you and your families look forward to each year are at significant risk and we write to you today to ask for your help. Though we don’t yet know what the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to Kansas Athletics might be, we do know that there will be significant deficiencies and impacts to our revenue and expenses. With the continued support of you, our Jayhawk community through the Williams Education Fund, we can continue our commitment to our student-athletes, improve the uncertainty and outlook for the coming year and better prepare ourselves for the future. Together with Kansas Athletics, the Williams Education Fund is asking you, our beloved Jayhawk community, to continue to make the difference through the newly created Jayhawk Relief Fund.
The Jayhawk Relief Fund is intended to provide resources toward scholarships, leadership development, operational support and competition, along with COVID-19 health and safety measures, that will enable us to continue developing student-athletes. All in all, we want to ensure we take care of our student-athletes, especially during this global pandemic, and solidify their Kansas experiences in a positive way, even in the midst of uncertainty. Gifts of any size are appreciated, and donations are eligible for a tax deduction provided you waive all benefits including priority points. To participate, please click HERE.
The loyalty and dedication of our Williams Education Fund members are second to none and we appreciate you more than ever. The Kansas student-athlete and fan experience will look much different this year, but with your support of the Jayhawk Relief Fund, it will be an experience they will never forget.
Thank you again for your longstanding and continued giving; every gift makes an impact and we are deeply appreciative of you. Stay tuned for other ways to support your Jayhawk student-athletes in the coming weeks!
Thank you & Rock Chalk!
